MANILA – Former president Rodrigo R. Duterte has reported that he is “generally fine” after undergoing a medical check-up in The Netherlands ahead of his first appearance before the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday.
In a statement on Friday morning, the Philippine Embassy in The Netherlands said Duterte reached out to the embassy past 3 p.m. (Central European time) and conveyed that he had received medical care.
“During the call, the former president conveyed, among others, that he underwent medical check-up and has received medical care and that he is generally fine,” it said.
The embassy said it is currently facilitating and making a “follow-up” on the visit of Duterte’s legal counsel and family member upon his request.
It is also making arrangements for a consular visit to the former chief executive and has already submitted the request to the Registry of the ICC.
On March 13, the embassy said Duterte called and spoke to former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, one of his legal counsels.
Duterte is currently at the ICC detention center and is set to make his initial appearance before the international court at 9 p.m. (Manila time). (PNA)
